How to read this
- Documents, not verdicts. Every claim is a photograph of the original archival card. Read it yourself; our extraction is only a finding aid.
- Absence is not disproof. 10–20% of the membership file was destroyed in 1945 — worst for surnames starting G, K, L, M and the Salzburg and Vienna districts. Not found ≠ not a member.
- Membership is not guilt. Over 10 million people held NSDAP membership between 1925 and 1945; some joined under pressure. The joining date and the record's context matter.
- Match honesty. strong match means name, birth date and place all agree. possible match means name plus one detail — judge it against the document.
